Mission and Core Values
Our Story
Follow the Child was established in 2001 to provide Raleigh families from every cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic background with a source for an excellent Montessori education. In 2016, we moved to our current location just off of Blue Ridge Road. Our building contains 10 classrooms for children aged 14 months to 12 years, as well as an Outdoor Learning Environment that includes play structures, a garden, and a greenhouse.
Our Mission
Every day, we set out to empower and inspire children to fulfill their unique potential. We teach independence, responsibility, and self-motivation; we nurture a love of learning and a belief in mutual respect; and we prepare each student to become a compassionate and creative thinker who thrives in a changing world.
Our Values
Our core values define our school. They are set on a foundation of respect and responsibility, and reflect who we are and what is truly important to us.
We are a welcoming, caring, and engaged community to all.
We apply authentic Montessori principles and practices consistently.
We guide and support the unique development of each and every child.
We model and teach good stewardship of our natural environment.
We are committed to providing an excellent Montessori education and to supporting our employees’ professional and personal growth.
What Makes Us Unique
We apply the educational, social, and cultural principles of the Montessori teaching approach at every level and at every opportunity within our campus.
We foster a community of students, teachers, parents, and administrators, all working together to support the growth of our students.
We have an Outdoor Education program where students can go on camping trips, explore the stream behind our school, garden, and more.
All of our Lead teachers are Montessori credentialed. We also pride ourselves in supporting their practice through ongoing professional development at conferences and workshops, coursework, training, and more.
