Special Purpose Funds

Manju Karkare Scholarship Fund

In recognition of Ms. Manju Karkare’s many contributions to Follow the Child Montessori School, the school desires to establish a scholarship fund in Ms. Karkare’s honor.

Ms. Karkare was a founding parent of Follow the Child Montessori School and served in many capacities from the school’s inception in 2001. The school benefited from Ms. Karkare’s many talents in the classroom, from her service as a board member, and from her ever willing service as a volunteer. Ms. Karkare’s dedication, commitment and active involvement fostered the founding families’ vision to reality in Follow the Child Montessori School. On August 13, 2001, the school opened its doors to 60 students. We will be forever indebted to Ms. Karkare, her family, and the school’s founding members for the foundation they have built.

The Manju Karkare Scholarship Fund will be funded by donations from individuals and corporations wishing to honor Ms. Karkare.

The funds from the Manju Karkare Scholarship Fund will benefit children whose family’s financial situation would not otherwise allow them access to a Follow the Child Montessori educational experience. Families interested in benefiting from this scholarship fund will follow the school’s normal Tuition Assistance Program procedures. The Manju Karkare Scholarship Fund will be open to all students including new applicants.

All funds received and disbursed will be maintained in an appropriate account within the school’s financial records. A report on the activities of the Fund will periodically be given to Ms. Karkare and the Board of Trustees.

Sylvia Saenger Fund for Professional Development

In recognition of Ms. Sylvia I. Saenger’s belief that professional development plays a vital role in the ability of teachers to help guide children in the development of their unique potential, Follow the Child Montessori School (FCM) is honored to set up a special purpose fund in Ms. Saenger’s honor.

Ms. Saenger was a founding visionary of Follow the Child Montessori School along with four other families and six faculty members and served as the first head of school from 2001 to 2010. The founders of Follow the Child created a school that adhered to high standards of Montessori education and that reflected a close-knit community. Ms. Saenger’s dedication, commitment and hard work have brought this vision to reality in Follow the Child Montessori School. On August 24, 2001, Follow the Child opened its doors to 60 students, with one Toddler House, one Children’s House, one Lower Elementary and one Upper Elementary classes. We will be forever indebted to Ms. Saenger, her family, and FCM’s founding members for the foundation they have built.

The Sylvia Saenger Fund for Professional Development will be funded by donations from individuals and corporations wishing to honor Ms. Saenger.

The funds from the Sylvia Saenger Fund for Professional Development will be spent on professional development expenses for teaching staff, both lead teachers and assistants. At the discretion of the Head of School the following expense items will be funded:

o Attendance to continuing development programs,
o Montessori consultants’ visits to the school,
o Speakers on topics related to Montessori education or child development.

All funds received will be maintained in an account within FCM’s accounting records. An annual report on the activities of the Fund will be given to the Board of Trustees.
