May 20, 2015 – Framing Complete

Framing of the two buildings is now complete. Site grading continues around the buildings and as work is completed on the various retaining walls. Many of the next steps will be less dramatic visually but still important and will include: roofing, plumbing rough-in, electrical wiring and HVAC rough-in.

May 6, 2015 – Footings, Slabs, and Frames

The long process of site work, in which the location is prepared for the buildings, has gotten to a point where work on the buildings can now begin.

April 19, 2015 – More Framing

Framing continues for the new buildings. It’s starting to look like a school!

April 9, 2015 – Framing

Framing is being put into place for the buildings.

January 31, 2015 – Removing Wall Forms, Drain Outlets, and Erosion Control Measures

We had heard there would be a lot of time during the site work period to prepare the location for both school buildings.  As the building pads shape up, walls are getting closer to completion with beginning of construction on the school itself to begin in short order.

January 17, 2015 – Drainage, Pipes, and Walls

Site work continues, despite the wet conditions.   During favorable weather times, work continued on the concrete forms, retaining walls and storm drains.  Topography of the site is visibly changing as progress is made on the walls.

January 13, 2015 – Walls, Walls, Walls!

The plan for the school requires much site work on which to place the school building and prepare for the surrounding grounds, parking, driveway, etc.   A rainy fall made progress challenging some weeks.    Retaining walls are being raised and site work continues towards preparing for the foundation of the school buildings.

December 5, 2014

Site work continues with excavation and preparation for building retaining wall number three, the highest and most structurally complex of all the retaining walls on site.

November 7, 2014 – Water Lines

Site work continues through the first weeks of November.   Water lines are being brought on site, including cutting through Harden Road itself.  Power conduits and fire hydrants were installed and progress continues on the retaining walls around the site.

October 18, 2014 – New Campus Kickoff Event

On October 18th, 2014, Follow The Child held a construction kick-off event. Families met at the FCM campus on Ridge Road to parade to the new location. Families walked, biked, ran and rolled their way on the greenway, through the NC Museum of Art property on a beautiful fall day to meet up at our new location. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us on this very special day in FCM’s history.

October 3, 2014 – Work on Retaining Walls Begins

Site work continues as the grounds are prepared for the school buildings.   This week starts the building of the first retaining wall.   Erosion control continues to be of high importance as we experience multiple heavy rainfalls.

September 26, 2014 – Erosion Control Continues

The location where the buildings will sit on the site is becoming more easily seen as the grading work continues.  Diversion ditches are maintained and adjusted so that no sediment leaves the site during construction.   With the recent rains, the stream at the back of the site is monitored to ensure erosion control measures are working.

September 19, 2014 – Grading Continues

Site grading continues, focusing this week on preparing for several of the retaining walls that will be put in place in the next few weeks.   Preparation for work on fire truck access is done, even before footings and foundations are in place.

September 6, 2014 – Erosion Control

Erosion control and tree protection are of top concern in the initial phases of the construction. Ground without the protection of groundcover is vulnerable to erosion. As a component of grading the site, erosion measures were implemented from the start.

September 5, 2014 – Clearing

In order to prepare the site for our school, trees and ground cover had to be removed in the areas the school will reside on the property.

August 27, 2014 – Groundbreaking

FCM Breaks ground on Harden Road. We are excited to announce that we officially broke ground on our Harden Road site! Construction is underway. The Board of Trustees and staff had a small and informal photo session to immortalize the moment last week.
